LSI Certification Programs
Considered by our clients to be the most effective and experiential lean certification programs in the industry, LSI offers two tracks of certifcations: Lean Belt Certification for people who want to become lean champions and specialists ("lean implementors and leaders"), and Executive Lean Certification for those who manage, lead, or strategize lean ("lean sponsors and ambassadors"). Japan Lean Tour is the "ultimate" benchmarking trip, in which you visit and see some of the best plants in the world.
LSI's sessions are delivered in various means at multiple locations throughout the world as part of our "Lean Academy" - essentially a virtual "lean school" whose mission is to provide real lean experience in gemba (where the action is) by bringing the participants right to source of the issue. This means that some classes are taught at the prestigeous members-only Terminal City Club center or at Simon Fraser University campus, while other courses are delievered inside an actual company. Lean Belt Certification programs are experiential, multi-module program during which participants will learn all the basic plus some advanced topics of lean. Approximately 25% of the time is spent in classroom or workshop setting, while the remaining 75% of the time is spent actually implementing and developing solutions through kaizen-style sessions in a real company. Our belief is that you learn by actually doing, vs simply listening to a lecture. Our philosophy is based on the "gemba" principle of doing the work where it really matters. There is no pre-requisite required.
Executive Lean Certification programs are designed for managers, directors, and senior executives who have greater responsibilify for deploying lean and managing lean initatives. The key focus is on corporate-wide topics such as strategy, people development, organizational problem solving, and leadership. Executive Lean Certification provides key ingredients for business success and covers advanced topics around lean deployment. Designed to be "a la carte", busy managers and executives can take any course they desire and build their own curriculum. Once they reach 6 credits or more (one day of workshop equals one credit), they receive formal certification status. There is no pre-requisite required, and although the program is designed for decision makers, anyone make take the course. LSI's Executive Programs involve some of the best instructors in the lean industry, including Mike Hoseus and David Meier, co-authors of Toyota Way books with Dr. Liker.
Japan is a country like no other in the world. It built its economic power through manufacturing over the past several decades, earning a reputation around the world as the “lean specialist.” Even though many lean best practices can be found throughout North America, the truly “serious” lean practitioners still find that Japan is the only place that can showcase lean implementation in its purest form. This is partly because lean can be seen in everyday life in Japan, not just in production or engineering. People who travel to Japan are fascinated by the fact that even restaurants and gas stations utilize lean in a way North Americans have not imagined. It’s difficult to truly appreciate lean until you have seen and experienced Japan hands-on. Japan Lean Tour participants also receive Executive Lean Certification credits as part of the program and therefore can "fast track" participants to the first level of Executive Certification. Japan Lean Tour is already included in our Blackbelt Certification program.
